As some of the other students, first entering into this class I did not know what to expect, I thought, "ah another gen ed class," However, after the first day of class, I was interested in what was to come of the class, The in class activity on the first day is what really did it for me, peaked my interest so to speak. We were divided up into groups and were asked to work together in creating a poster board of what we expected from the class, it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed all the activities Karen had us do, especially the personality card game.
There were a lot of writing assignments on top of blogging, at times I felt that the class should be a 4 credit class with all the writing we had to do. The three major writing assignments were difficult for me, since I'm not crazy about writing in the first place but the words eventually came and I think I did a OK job on the assignments. I really like the "This I Believe" assignment. This assignment required me to write and use recording and movie making software which I would of never used. It is really cool to see the work all put together.
In the end I really enjoyed this class. There were hard times in this class with having to write so much but I'm glad I took the class, I learned a lot about myself and met some pretty cool people in other majors that I would of most likely never would of met such as Ian, who helped me with my movie making, which I really appreciated. Also the class has prepared me for what to expect in preparing to graduate. I know I still have a lot to do before then. Many of the students in the class are graduating, I wish everyone the best of luck in their careers and much success!

The Need for Daily Motivation
The Need for Daily Motivation
Quote by Ralph Marston titled Keep Going.
“Some days it’s difficult to see the progress you’re making. Some days it may even seem that you’re moving backwards. Keep going. The moment you’ve been working toward gets ever closer as you move persistently through each day.
Each effort, whether you can see it or not, moves you forward. Even the seeming failures make you stronger and push you in the direction of your goal.
Those who keep going only when the going is good will never make it all the way. The value of achievement is built upon the difficulties you must cross through in order to reach it.
Keep going not only when the going is good. Persist in your efforts even when they seem to be pointless, even when you can’t feel any progress. For the progress is most certainly there. Keep going, and you will surely see it soon enough.” The Daily Motivator
— Ralph Marston
This quote has really touched something inside me. When I feel life is kicking me when I’m down, when I don’t know if I can make it through these challenges in my life with working full time, going to school and taking care of my son, I turn to The Daily Motivator. It is a website that has a wide variety of motivational quotes written by Ralph Marston. I like to read the quotes from the site when I feel I need that extra push to keep going. They help me see that no matter what life brings your way, no matter what challenges are in front of you, commit to it; keep going, follow your dreams and, in doing so, you are able to achieve those dreams with a feeling of accomplishment. I try to stay focused on the big picture, which is getting through school while having a full time job and, now, having a family. There are times I am so exhausted I just want to go home and go to bed, but I can’t, I have other responsibilities that come before myself.
I also like to collect quotes that inspire me, quotes that give me a sense of self-empowerment. Becoming a fashion designer I know I’m getting myself into a hard cutthroat industry. I need to believe in my work and to have the confidence to stand up for it. Alexander McQueen is a designer I look up to and am inspired by his work. He believed in his work. He’s quoted saying, “There comes a time in your life when you focus solely on what you believe is right, regardless of what everybody else is doing.” I love this quote because, in fashion, you either love it or hate it. McQueen said it best “take it or leave it I don’t really care.” I look to motivational quotes to build my confidence and to help me believe in myself and abilities to create something great. A quote from George Bernard Shaw “Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself” and that is what I believe.
